Some events are measured in square meters of stage space, and others are measured in something much harder to quantify: the excitement of an entire town. The Festival of the Patron Saint of Pollença is, without a doubt, one of the latter. And when LoMusic took charge of setting up and taking down the two stages for the Marcha Fresca and Fresketa—with their lighting, sound, decor, and smoke and confetti effects—as well as the stage, music, lighting, and sound for the pre-Alborada party, it was clear to us that we were facing one of those projects that put everything we know how to do to the test: the technical production of large-scale events in historic venues, with very tight deadlines and an emotional intensity that leaves no room for error.
This project is a perfect example of our work as a full-service production company in Mallorca for large-scale community events: we’re not talking about a wedding or a corporate event, but rather a centuries-old patron saint festival where thousands of people fill a town’s main square and expect the experience to live up to the tradition.
The Festival of Pollença’s Patron Saint, in honor of the Mare de Déu dels Àngels, is one of Mallorca’s most deeply rooted celebrations, and its highlight takes place every August 2 with the famous Reenactment of the Moors and Christians. But before that big day, the town enjoys two nights of festivities in the Plaça Major, which are at the heart of the festival program.
The Marcha Fresca is Pollença’s big white party: thousands of people dressed in white fill the Plaça Major for a night of music and DJs that has become one of the town’s most popular and eagerly anticipated summer events. That same night, as part of the same festival program, Fresketa takes place—a second stage that expands the night’s musical lineup and gives attendees the chance to move between two different atmospheres without leaving the town center. It’s a party in its purest form, with two squares transformed into open-air dance floors.
And the following night brings the Alborada celebration: a revelry with live music, a stage, lights, and sound that once again fills the Plaça Major, serving as a prelude to one of the most moving moments of the entire program: the traditional Alborada, a piece that has been performed since 1882 and which the Pollença Band plays at dawn on August 2 to mark the official start of the big day. This traditional performance brings the evening we’ve produced to a close, giving way to the most solemn moment of the entire festival.
Covering these nights—the first featuring two simultaneous stages and the second with its own distinct identity, separated by just a few hours—is precisely what makes this project a top-tier technical and logistical challenge.
At LoMusic, we handle the comprehensive technical production of the nightlife events in Pollença, taking care of every necessary detail to ensure that everything runs smoothly from start to finish:
Stage setup and takedown. We set up the structures for the two stages for the Marcha Fresca and Fresketa events in historic venues in downtown Pollença, adapting each setup to the unique characteristics of historic squares that, for the rest of the year, are not designed to host a technical production of this caliber. The Fresketa stage was dismantled at the end of that night, but the main Marcha Fresca stage remained in place and was the same one we used for the l’Alborada festival the following night, optimizing time and avoiding a complete setup from scratch. The final dismantling of the entire setup must be completed before dawn, when the square regains its traditional character for the performance by the town band.
Sound system. We designed and installed a sound system for each stage, engineered to fill every space with the power and clarity required for an event of this scale, ensuring that the music reaches every corner with the same quality—from the front row to the adjacent streets where the crowd also gathers.
Play of light. The lighting design follows the rhythm of each night and each stage: a unique visual language for the Marcha Fresca, another for Fresketa, and a specific lighting concept for the l’Alborada festival, creating in all three cases the atmosphere of a grand popular festival while keeping in mind that we are working within historic spaces.
Decorating with fabrics. We decorate both venues with textiles designed to enhance the aesthetic of each event, providing a polished visual finish that elevates the experience beyond a purely functional setup.
DJ booth design featuring Goliat spotlights. The DJ booth became a focal point in its own right on the stage, with a design enhanced by Goliat spotlights that added lighting power and a highly recognizable visual element, lending personality to the space from which the DJs spun tracks all night long.
Smoke and confetti effects. The highlights of the Marcha Fresca are enhanced with smoke effects and confetti showers, designed to create the emotional peaks that the audience expects at a festival of this magnitude and that make the night an even more memorable experience.
What makes this project unique is not only the scale of each individual festival, but also the clever management of the same stage over the course of two nights, with the traditional performance of *l’Alborada* awaiting at the end of the event—a moment that cannot afford even the slightest delay.
The challenge here is twofold: two stages operating in parallel, each with its own sound system, lighting, decor, and DJ booth, yet coordinated as part of a single production. Added to that is the infrastructure needed to support hours of music and two completely packed venues, while maintaining safety and technical quality from the beginning to the end of the party.
With Fresketa already dismantled, the main stage of the Marcha Fresca remains standing and becomes the starting point for the l’Alborada festival: we adjust the sound, lighting, and production details right on that same structure, without needing to set everything up from scratch. It’s a festival in its own right, but with one unique feature: we know that, just a few hours after it ends, the same square must be completely cleared to host a much more intimate moment—the performance of l’Alborada by the Pollença Band, a piece that has been part of the town’s collective memory for over a century. That’s why, this time, the complete dismantling is planned with the utmost precision: by dawn, not a trace of the technical production from the two nights can remain.
This ability to intelligently reuse the main structure—without compromising the quality of each night’s performance—and then completely dismantle it before one of the most solemn moments of the entire festival is exactly the kind of challenge that demonstrates why technical planning is just as important as the sound and lighting equipment itself.
